Amy Sherpa, RN, MN, IBCLC®
After completing a Bachelors degree in nursing, Amy has spent over 15 years working and training at various Intensive Care Units for babies in New Zealand Hospitals. She has also completed her Masters degree in this area and continues to work part time at Waitakere Special Care Baby Unit to ensure her practice and skills are kept up to date.
She has been working as a Baby Sleep Practitioner for 8 years now and brings a calm approach backed by evidence based solutions for sleep, feeding and emotional support for mum and dad.
As a mother of 3 young boys she can certainly relate to how hectic things can be for new (or experienced!) parents.
Amy is available for in-person private consults or support via Zoom. email or phone. Please see pricing page for more details. Below is more detail about my specific qualifications, make sure you compare with others when shopping around.

My Qualifications
The Baby Sleep Practitioners was founded in 2014 in response to the lack of suitably trained sleep consultants in New Zealand - the reason then is still relevant now. See the Radio NZ interview here or Stuff article here about the lack of qualified ''consultants" in NZ that lack the education, training or both.
My point of difference is my relevant education and experience - I hold a Bachelors and Master's degree in Nursing, specialising in care for babies; you can find me registration here. This means my practice is safe and evidence backed. Furthermore I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) - this is the highest level of education recognised by the NZ Health System for breastfeeding support. More detail on what a lactation consultant does can be found here https://www.nzlca.org.nz/about-lactation-consultants I have also completed Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC) through Possums Clinic and have integrated this into my practice alongside my own approach which I have developed through feedback from clients, public practice and the community. I've recently aligned myself with Milk and Honey Paediatrics - paediatric specialist doctors and lactation consultants that share I share a similar view with. We will be doing more work with Milk and Honey in future so keep an eye out! |
